Soundscape for the spoken word

A collaborative project developing from the Sunday Session 3rd Feb 2013

Zizhi, Matias and I improvised to two of Phil’s spoken word pieces: There was an immediate spark. Although Matias was looking for something far different, his guitar, the combination of Phil’s voice and word, Zizhi on keyboard, my guitar with FX, swapping during the piece with Zizhi, for bass and/or drums or whatever was appropriate

The combination worked well enough for us all to agree to record a demo for Phil to present to possible gigs. We’re locked in for Saturday 9th Feb 2013.

One of the problems involved in recording improvisations live. I do not yet have the facilities to provide everyone with individual head sets and feeds. The leakage can be edited out where Phil isn’t speaking, not where he is speaking. However doing this effects the panning & volume of the instruments. The voice is in the centre and Matias & Zizhi are panned L & R. Best solution. Record voice again :-)

update-3-12th-May-2013 – Voice re-recorded – FINAL MIX

I’m feeling very humbled and in awe of the artists accompaning me (and my words) on Cyborg.
That we did this in one take is nothing short of amazing…
And all thanks must go to Benni for making this piece possible.
    Thank you one and all.
    Phil

Fantastic Sound Engineering on this track and excellent soundscapers, really made a difference to totally impromptu works, or stream of unconciousness’es workin’ their way to some kind of state of mindlessness. Thank you one and all.
