It was a long day
We’d been given a written brief by Phil prior to the day with a vague outline of some of the things influencing his thoughts as to where the music might go.

That was the only preparation towards the score, though I gave a lot of thought as to how we might achieve a desirable end result without a rehearsal and musicians who’d be available and willing to engage in the project on the smell of an oily rag. All music was composed/improvised/arranged on the day.

The production was divided into five sections which were done a section at a time, so the musicians weren’t required to learn the complete piece.

The nature and feel of each section was first discussed around the kitchen table. The musicians were then given about 10 minutes on set to ‘work something up’. Each section then had two or three run throughs during which Rocco filmed cut aways.

There were then two or three takes before we moved on to the next section

All in all it worked smoothly and professionally with only a few very minor hitches. We finished within the original time I’d estimated 10:00am – 4:30pm.

Extra location footage is to be shot with Philip and Sage. The sound track has yet to be mixed down. (Early September)
